Sustainable Interior Design
Recently, I binged watched all of the seasons of The Expanse. (Who else loves this show!?) Sadly, their portrayal of future environmental issues doesn’t seem that far fetch. Clean water and air are vital for our existence and yet we are not really doing all we can to help protect our resources. The good news is that through sustainable practices and advancement in technology we could help reduce pollution and protect our natural resources.
Sustainability is a practice that can be applied in various fields, the built environment is not an exception. According to EPA the commercial and residential sector is responsible for 11% of greenhouse gas emissions. Including sustainable design when building new homes and buildings can help reduce our overall environmental impact.
The built environment industry offers various opportunities where sustainability practices could be integrated. Each factor of sustainability: economic, social and environment can be address in the built industry. Architects, Interior Designers and homemakers have the opportunity to select materials, design spaces and create situations that promote sustainability. Sustainable interior design can help reduce environmental impact, promote health and wellbeing, and contribute to a sustainable economy.
